As the Superintendent-President, Dr. Mike Muñoz is the chief executive officer of Long Beach City College (LBCC), a role he has held since 2021. Nationally acclaimed as a transformational leader, he has been instrumental in closing racial equity gaps for students of color, fostering inclusive environments for LGBTQIA+ students, and implementing innovative changes that position LBCC as a top choice for students from diverse backgrounds. A first-generation college graduate from the California Community College system, Dr. Muñoz earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine, followed by a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Doctorateof Education in Community College Leadership from California State University, Long Beach. He overcame significant personal challenges during his studies, including food and housing insecurity, while raising his daughter as a single father.Dr. Muñoz brings extensive teaching experience to his role, having instructed at both undergraduate and graduate levels at institutions such as USC and California State Universities in Long Beach and Los Angeles. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Higher Education at USC’s Rossier School of Education. His dedication to education and mentorship has earned him several accolades, including the 2019 Outstanding Faculty Member from USC’s Rossier Student Organization and the 2018 Dr. Cynthia S. Johnson Award from CSULB.
